In response to Mr. Prestie’s letter in Saturday’s (12.19.2009) Fort Erie Time’s.

Sir.
While you state “you try to understand”  those of us opposed to the Molinaro Plan for Bay Beach, you seem to do so with some rather negative and preconceived notions about your fellow residents. Proclaiming  we  “…could care less about progress…” nor share in the excitement about Crystal Beach’s future, seems to follow a standard “script” for those writing in support of the Bay Beach project.

According to you, our motivation is based in an effort “…to hurt Crystal Beach in it’s golden moment to move forward…”.

That is simply ridiculous.

Despite your insulting and baseless statements, about fellow residents in opposition to the project, you claim we are the one’s engaged in attacking people.
Frankly sir, that seems to be a contradiction.

I do agree with your assessment, in regards to our being motivated by fear, though it’s not the result of the miserable existence you suggest we all share.
What we fear is the transfer of a significant portion of a publicly owned, waterfront park  to a private developer.

Respectfully,  I suggest you reconsider your position that those of us choosing to express our view by posting a “yellow sign” in front of our homes are some kind of “lesser citizen”.

Need I remind you of the number of those signs?

Finally, I also share your hope that Council keeps it’s focus on a brighter future.
A future that is influenced not only by the requirements of the private sector, but by the wishes of the residents of Fort Erie.

  1. Thank you for responding to the letter in the Times. I believe the man who wrote it is misinformed about what is really going on at Bay Beach. The town wants to give away our public property to a developer. It is the last piece of public beach front property in Crystal Beach. I am seriously concerned about access despite what the town says. A huge building taking up a lot of the space will surely put people off about entering the beach from Bay Beach. I see a gate in our future, controlled by the condo owner.

  2. How stupid do you think town is! The beach will always be public and that the condo owners only own their apartment along with strata fees to pay for the up keep of the common areas, if anyone would read up on strata law, they would know this. AND YOU WILL BE SURE THAT THE TOWN WILL HAVE A TIGHT CONTRACT THAT THE BEACH IS PUBLIC LAND, AND the condo owners will never be able to gate the entrance like some of the yellow sign people state.

  3. Hay Anonymous above,,,

So we get to keep how much land above the high water mark and to the south of Erie Rd? No one is saying!

Elsewhere in North America, towns and city's are trying to fix the problem there four fathers created and to reacquire lands along there shores and we here in Fort Erie just want to give it away?

As our population grows wouldn't it be pertinent to keep this property for all to enjoy. Fix up the existing commercial properties and if more commercial property is required there is a hugh piece of land right by the sewage treatment facilities witch has already been destroyed.

In my belief, I think the only people who would be fore giving this property away have a monetary interest...

The Town of Fort Erie spent thousands on a neighbour hood plan for Crystal Beach back in 2004-2005. This proposal is way off base - so what was the purpose of that Plan if a few years down the road it becomes void at the wim of a different council!

What about the Current plan witch was done for Ridgeway - more money's Blown away or what - in a few years down the road we to look forward to high-rises in the middle of the town..

Many People continue to live in this area for the town atmosphere, Many others continue to move here for that same reason, What if people who what to live near High rises or large City's stay there or move to were they are or are all ready approved? Because once it is gone - that is permanent. Just a thought
