With Councilor Ann Marie Noyes’s motion for Town Council to consider exploring a possible partnership with The Niagara Region in regards to Bay Beach, I’m curious as to whether or not anyone has any thoughts on the matter ?
The floor is open for discussion…
Enjoy the weekend!
John
Wow- talk about opening a can of worms here, John! Do you really think that that organization who can't seem to connect its municipalities with a regional transit can be responsible for Bay Beach? Gasp- they may have to travel beyond Niagara Falls of all things! (tongue in cheek!)
ReplyDeleteCan of worms perhaps… but I’m just asking my friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
John
The amount of money that the Region is talking about, FOR THE ENTIRE REGIONAL WATERFRONT, would not develop a road allownce.
ReplyDeleteI think that with some funding and support from the Region, as well as from provincial & federal infrastructure, tourism and recreational grants, as well as fundraising, corporate donations and philanthropy, together with Fort Erie determination, resourcefulness, and ingenuity...we can do this...and I believe that we can make this our legacy...another step in the rejuvanation of Crystal Beach and Fort Erie! Since when are we Fort Erians afraid of a little hard work and a little not taking no for an answer?
ReplyDelete"The amount of money that the Region is talking about, FOR THE ENTIRE REGIONAL WATERFRONT, would not develop a road allownce."
ReplyDeleteA million here and a million there and before you know it you're talkin' some real money. lol
John
Well if you divide the regional waterfront area into a million before you know it a penny here a penny there.
ReplyDeleteThe whole regional statement is just another political ploy by the chairman to make himself look good when he finally quits.
Would you know how much public access waterfront land the Region currently owns?
ReplyDeleteAnd here I thought conventional wisdom was they only did things like that to get elected?
"Live and learn" as they say.
Of Interest!

"Citizens Fighting To Preserve Public Beach Access Plan To Stack Town Hall Meeting"
Article by: Doug Draper
An interesting article but rather redundant. Did Draper just come across this situation?
ReplyDeleteWhy should Wayne Redekop's old ideas count for more than mine? Times change--ideas change.
"An interesting article but rather redundant. Did Draper just come across this situation"?
ReplyDeleteI think Doug would be the person to ask.
"Why should Wayne Redekop's old ideas count for more than mine? Times change--ideas change".
Considering reference is often made by proponents of the current proposal, to the 2001 Council’s examination of the possibility of selling non-beach portions to obtain additional beach or otherwise, I think it’s important to note what Mayor Redekop had to say about the results of the inquiry.
While it’s most certainly this Council’s prerogative to look into the issue and draw its own conclusions I would think Mayor Redekop’s insight on the matter would be of particular value.
As for “Times change--ideas change”
Whether for good, or bad, indeed they do.
John
Redekop vis-a-vis now.
ReplyDeleteI am sure glad that Churchill never thought Chamberlain's insight would be of "particular value".
Any "historical insight" regarding Councilor Lockwood's quote...
ReplyDelete"We wouldn't be doing our jobs as a council if we didn't investigate all the possibilities that are out there". ?
Well, did they or didn't they. Perhaps they didn't. Perhaps they did and chose this one. I don't think either of us knows. Did you ask them?
ReplyDeleteIs your answer as a question an attempt to question answers or ask questions vis-a-vis a straight answer?
ReplyDeletelol
John
I like to confuse myself. However we do not know who looked at how many options.
ReplyDeleteOf course some US president might ask for a definition of "all". Like, how many is that?
Martha said that when the anti-development people insisted that the town should not seek a private investor in the property back in July 2008. The people who are saying the town should look at all options now are the ones who said the development option should not be examined. Interesting Catch-22, don't you agree?
ReplyDeleteRegional Government doesn't care about Crystal Beach or Fort Erie for that matter.Where has Ann-Marie Noyes been?Is she NEW?Did did she just arrive on the scene?Giving someone else the task of dealing with our waterfront to Regional Councillors is absolutely the worst, most idiotic idea yet from Noyes. If WE can't figure out what we want, why allow someone that is so disconnected from our community do it for us?Or is it that Noyes can't handle the day to day pressures of her duties as a small town councillor? Not exactly Mayoral material!
ReplyDeleteThey confuse me more than me confuse me.
ReplyDelete"the anti-development people"
ReplyDeleteThis is an inaccurate generalization of organizations and individuals that are voicing reservations and concerns about the current proposal. Remember The Town has encouraged those opposed to be come forth. I have yet to see any organization or individual make any statements that would dub them as "Anti Development".
If that's your opinion of these folks, well I suppose that's fine, but honestly I think you are mistaken.
"Interesting Catch-22, don't you agree?"
Frankly,no I don't.
I for one supported the Town's exploration of the Public/Private Partnership. What I didn't see coming was this "existing proposal or nothing" mentality. If I were to provide "options" like what's being proposed here to my employers ?
I would be in BIG trouble!
The only Catch-22 I see is with someone saying "all options" when perhaps they meant otherwise?
John
"They confuse me more than me confuse me"
ReplyDeleteUp things clears me for. lol
I have decided that I will no longer call them an anti-devopment faction. In future they will be known as the "SANDanistas".
ReplyDeleteFair enough ! lol
ReplyDeleteAs we can call them the "mo-dineros."
ReplyDeleteAnn-Marie's motion to council concerning Bay Beach was pure genius. How about letting the tax payer purchase the lands a second time. That makes alot of sense Ann-Marie.Pure genius!Regional Government,Provincial Government, lets invite everyone to Fort Erie!I bet they'll fix it.Just like they fixed Douglas Memorial Hospital! Can we have Ann-Marie Noyes explain her concerns about giving away public lands again, please?
